Helpful Closet Doors Information
Bypass Closet Door Sizing and Panel Overlap
Measure the finished opening at several points across its width and height, then compare those measurements with the product’s installation requirements. Check the listed door dimensions and required clearances before ordering.
Bypass closet doors overlap in the center. If your opening is slightly narrower than the width specified on the product page, the panels may overlap more and still function. However, extra overlap reduces the width available for access and can change how the design looks when closed.
A substantially narrower opening needs closer checking. Trimming the doors is not recommended, so confirm the fit before purchasing rather than planning to cut the panels during installation.
Mirror, Glass, and Louvered Closet Door Styles
Mirrored Closet Doors
Mirrored closet doors combine a closet closure with an everyday dressing mirror. They are especially useful when wall space for a separate mirror is limited. Before choosing a style, consider what the mirror will reflect from your usual viewing position—a window, the bed, or an open doorway.
Compare the mirror area as well as the panel design. Mirror closet doors with different frame layouts can create a noticeably different look, even when the overall door dimensions are the same.
Glass Closet Doors
Glass closet doors let you balance light and visibility. Clear glass keeps the contents on display, making it better suited to storage you prefer to keep visually organized. Frosted glass softens the view, though silhouettes may remain visible depending on the glass, lighting, and distance.
Check the glass finish on the individual product page rather than assuming every glass style provides the same privacy.
Louvered Closet Doors
Louvered closet doors use slatted sections that allow air to pass through while screening stored items from direct view. They are worth considering when airflow is a priority, particularly for closets used to store clothing and linens.
The slats also create more surfaces to dust than a flat panel. Consider both the ventilation and the cleaning routine when choosing your finish.
Do Both Closet Door Panels Slide?
Yes. Both panels slide, so you can access either side of the closet. Because the panels overlap, part of the opening remains covered when the doors are open.
Are These Doors Supplied with A Prehung Frame?
No. A frame is not included. Before ordering, confirm that your finished opening can support the track and meets the product’s installation requirements.
Can I Use These Doors If My Opening Is Narrower?
A slightly narrower opening may work with more overlap between the panels. Greater overlap can reduce access and affect the appearance of the closed doors. If your opening is considerably narrower, confirm compatibility before purchasing. Cutting the doors is not recommended.
Are Handles and Locks Included?
No. The sliding hardware is included, but handles and locks are not. If you want to add either, check compatibility with the panel material and the clearance between the sliding doors.
Is There A Bottom Track?
There is a top track and bottom guides, rather than a continuous floor track. The guides help stabilize the panels. Follow the model’s installation instructions to confirm the required floor attachment.
