Helpful Prehung/ Slab Doors Information
Measuring for an Interior Slab Door
For a replacement, record the existing panel’s width, height, and thickness. Then check the frame at several points, along with hinge locations and the position of the latch. An older frame may no longer be square, even if the current door still closes.
Use the individual product’s dimension guide to distinguish the door size from the required opening. For double doors, confirm whether the listed width describes each panel or the pair.
A swing door also needs clearance through its opening arc. Check both the floor clearance and nearby furniture before selecting the size and handing. If the measurements do not match, confirm your options before ordering rather than planning to trim the door.
Pantry Door Styles for Visibility and Ventilation
A pantry door can either conceal everyday storage or make it part of the kitchen’s design. Clear glass suits a pantry you want to display. Frosted glass softens the view of shelves, while a panel door keeps food packaging and small appliances out of sight.
Louvered styles are useful when airflow is part of your plan, but the openings provide less separation from sound and odors than a closed panel.
Before choosing a single or double-door configuration, check the space around the opening. The doors should clear nearby cabinets and leave enough room to carry groceries through comfortably.
Bedroom Door Styles for Privacy
For a bedroom door, start with how much of the room you want visible from the hallway. A panel design without glass provides visual privacy, while frosted glass offers a way to share light between spaces with less visibility than clear glass.
Frosted glass should not be treated as a blackout surface. Light—and potentially silhouettes—may remain visible. If hallway lighting disturbs your sleep, a panel door may suit your routine better.
Also consider where the door will sit when open. Check that the panel and handle will clear your bed, furniture, and light switches.
Slab Doors and Prehung Interior Doors
A door slab is the door panel without the surrounding frame. It can be a practical choice when your existing frame is in good condition and you want to change the door’s appearance while keeping the surrounding trim.
Fit matters as much as style. The new panel needs to work with your frame, hinge positions, and latch location. Matching the listed width and height alone does not guarantee a straightforward replacement.
Prehung interior doors include a frame and are worth considering for a new opening or a frame that also needs replacing. Compare the selected package’s contents and assembly requirements before ordering, particularly if you need matching hinges or a specific handing.
Does A Door Slab Include A Frame or Hardware?
The slab-only option does not include a frame, hinges, or handles. If you also need a door frame or a hardware accessory kit, you can purchase them on the product page.
Can I Replace the Door Without Replacing the Frame?
Yes, provided the frame is sound and compatible with the replacement panel. Have your installer check the dimensions, hinge preparation, and latch alignment first. A damaged or out-of-square frame may need attention before a new door can fit properly.
Are Hinge Recesses and Handle Holes Already Prepared?
The door panels do not come with pre-cut hinge recesses or lock holes, allowing you to decide the placement of the door lock yourself.
How Do I Choose Left-Hand or Right-Hand Opening?
The door slab has no pre-cut hinge recesses, so you can position the hinges for either left-hand or right-hand opening.
If you choose a matching TENONER frame, handing is defined when viewed from outside the room: left-hand means the hinges are on your left and the door opens inward; right-hand means the hinges are on your right and the door opens inward. The frame can also be installed for outward opening, depending on your room layout. Confirm your preferred swing direction before installation.
Can I Trim the Door to Fit A Smaller Opening?
Yes, minor height adjustments are possible by trimming the bottom edge only. The maximum trimming allowance depends on the door type:
UV-finished glass and panel doors, black PVC-finished glass doors, and pine wood doors: up to 40 mm (approximately 1.57 in).
Molded hollow-core doors: up to 20 mm (approximately 0.79 in).
These allowances apply only to the bottom edge, not the top or sides. Confirm your model and measurements before cutting, and have a qualified installer complete the adjustment.
Can I Paint the Door?
Yes, doors with a primed finish can be painted in your preferred color. PVC-wrapped doors come with a finished surface and are ready to use without painting. Check the finish listed on your product page before choosing.
Does A Prehung Option Arrive Fully Assembled?
No, the door and the door frame are separate. Shipping a fully pre-assembled door is not feasible via standard courier services due to its large size, and doing so would increase logistics costs by $200. Additionally, there would be a higher risk of damage. Therefore, we ship the door frame and the door separately and pass the resulting logistics savings entirely on to the customer.
Can Interior Slab Doors Be Used Outdoors?
We do not recommend using interior slab doors outdoors. Interior and exterior doors differ in thickness, materials, and surface finishes. For an outdoor entrance, choose a door specifically designed for exterior use.
